5-Day Cruising to Bareboat

Prerequisites

This course is designed for students who have completed the US Sailing Basic Keelboat series or ASA 101* who want to learn how to skipper larger cruising sailboats for multiple days.

*ASA 101 students will need to challenge the US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification.

Certification Requirements

The Cruising to Bareboat program integrates US Sailing's Basic Cruising and Bareboat Cruising certifications with Windworks' Navigation and Piloting course into an engaging 5-day cruise-and-learn experience led by an US Sailing instructor. Upon completion, you will be qualified to skipper sailboats for multi-day trips throughout the Puget Sound, San Juan Islands, and beyond.

US Sailings' Bareboat Certification is recognized as the most comprehensive in the industry, equipping you to responsibly skipper and crew a cruising sailboat in various weather conditions. Additionally, the Navigation & Piloting (N&P) component will ensure you have demonstrated proficiency in traditional navigation techniques. This includes the use of hard-copy navigational charts, tide and current tables, phases of the moon, compass, dividers, and parallel plotters, without reliance on electronic aids.

Knowledge and skill requirements for each certification can be found on the individual course pages:
