Match Racing

Magic Wind vs Wicked Wind are Back!

Race against the Winds during our match races aboard the 275 Sport Catalinas ‘Magic Wind’ vs. 'Wicked Wind'

The first race of this three-race October series starts Oct. 17. The boats fill up fast, so reserve your spot now and race the winds to glory!

The Catalina 275 Sport Boat is designed to be a comfortable, performance-oriented, day racer. The large cockpit offers excellent visibility of the course and other boats while the sail controls promote tremendous opportunity to tune the vessel for speed; granting savvy sailors the competitive edge they need to make it around the buoys quickly.

You will learn the rules and techniques of racing in a safe environment under guidance of a licensed captain. It's about having a good time, meeting new people, and winning isn't so bad either.

Series Format & Championship Rules

  • Series boats: Catalina 275s Magic and Wicked Wind.
  • Regular series races: Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 count toward the October series standings under the scoring system announced for the series.
  • Halloween double-points eligibility: Racers who competed in the two prior series dates ( Oct. 17, and Oct. 24) are
eligible to earn double individual series points during the Oct. 31 championship finale. Racers who did not compete in every
prior race may still participate in the finale, but receive normal points.

Oct. 31 - Pirate Championship Finale

  • Outbound leg: Magic and Wicked Wind race from Shilshole to Bell Harbor. After finishing, both crews dock at Bell Harbor and
go ashore for a pirate-themed pub stop.
  • Return leg: After the scheduled shoreside break and skipper briefing, the boats depart Bell Harbor for a second race back to
Shilshole. The outbound and return legs form the Halloween finale.
  • Pirate theme: Pirate costumes, boat decorations, and crew themes are encouraged, provided they do not interfere with visibility, movement, PFDs, lines, winches, steering, or other safety equipment.

Safety & Shoreside Stop

  • Alcohol is limited to the shoreside stop. The skipper and anyone responsible for operating the vessel must remain sober. All
participants must be fit to safely continue before the return race begins. Normal PFD, navigation, collision-avoidance, and
skipper safety requirements remain in effect throughout the event.

Race Management

  • Courses, start/finish locations, rounding instructions, start procedures, and timing may be adjusted by the race organizer or
skippers for weather, daylight, vessel traffic, equipment, or safety. The final sailing instructions and scoring method should be
briefed to all racers before the first start.
