This course focuses on getting the most out of GPS-based navigation tools while avoiding pitfalls such as over-dependence, misinterpretation and distraction. Learn how the satellite system works and how to take advantage of its accuracy and convenience for route planning,  on-the-water decision making, and safety. Discussion includes the range
of hardware from hand-held GPS units to high-end chart plotters including PC-based and integrated systems. You'll also learn about digital chart sources and formats, current analysis, and back-up planning for when the system fails. 

The course is a four (4) hour course, and includes some hands on examples.  If you own a handheld GPS, please bring it to class.
