Windworks does not allow single-handed sailing.  All charters must have at least one qualified skipper and an additional passenger who is – at a minimum- capable of using a cell phone or VHF radio.

Types of charter available

WEEKDAY  Normally 9 AM to 5 PM, but can be extended from 5 PM until dusk as a free bonus for members, if there is no evening sail booked for the boat at the time the reservation is made. Start times can be before 9 AM if: (1) member has been previously checked out on the vessel, and (2) member makes prior arrangements to board early at least 2 business day prior to sail.

WEEKDAY  9 AM to 5 PM.  Vessel check-in is at 5 PM. Boat to be cleaned, secured and inventoried by charterer by 5:00 PM, so that check-in by Wind Works personnel can be completed.  See charter contract for late arrival penalties and other terms of charter.

 

WEEKDAY 1/2 DAY From 9 AM to 1 PM, or from 1 PM to 5 PM (or dusk, as a free bonus, if no evening sail is booked).

3 WEEKDAYS  Any three consecutive week days.  Departure and return times are 12 PM (noon).  Each day is a twenty four hour period starting from noon departure. Charterer is responsible for bedding and charts outside one day cruising area.  Trips are subject to member qualifications.

WEEK  Any consecutive seven day period.  Departure and return times are at 12 PM (noon).  Each day is a twenty four hour period, counted from noon of the departure day.  Additional days may be added to the trip at the prorated weekly per day rate.   Charterer is responsible for bedding and charts outside one day cruising area.  Trips are subject to member qualifications.  Week long charter rates are posted on the website. Weeklong charters that cover a national holiday (3 day weekend), add 6% to the weekly rate.

4 DAY  A four day period (MON - FRI).  Charter departure (start of check - in) and return times are 12 PM (noon).   A day is counted as a 24 hour period, starting from 12 PM start time.  From June through Sept., trips are available on a Monday through Friday four day basis only.   Depending on availability, may be booked two weeks in advance.  Charterer is responsible for bedding and charts outside one day cruising area.  Call for details.

 

WEEKEND DAY  Same as WEEKDAY hours.

WEEKEND DAY  Same hours as WEEKDAY.  See non-member "standby" policy below.

 

1/2 WEEKEND DAY  Same hours as described under WEEKDAY 1/2 DAY above.  May not be booked in advance during the prime season; same day reservations may be made.  1/2 day weekend sails may be booked in advance during the discount season. 

1/2 WEEKEND DAY   N/A

 

EVENING  Departure time is 6 PM on both weekdays and weekend days.  Return time is dusk.  Evening sails may be booked in advance for weekdays.  Weekend evening sails may be booked on the day of weekend use for vessels not previously booked.  NOTE: MEMBER MUST HAVE SAILED OR OTHERWISE BEEN CHECKED OUT ON THE VESSEL BEING USED FOR THE  EVENING SAIL.  NO "FIRST TIME" VESSEL CHECK OUTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR EVENING SAILS.  Arrange for advance check-out if necessary.

Reservations

Up to 2 advance bookings can be carried on reservation calendar.

Standby basis as described below for each type of charter.

 

Members may book most types of sails up to four months in advance.  The only restrictions are 1/2 DAY and EVENING sails on the WEEKEND during the PRIME season.   These can be booked the day of the sail only.

Note:  During the PRIME season members have priority booking on all vessels until noon on Fridays for weekend day bookings.   Members should plan as far ahead as possible for all bookings in the PRIME season, and should be aware that after noon on Fridays the public non-member waiting list opens for bookings.

Non-members may call ahead for desired sailing dates. During PRIME season, names are placed on a standby list in the order of names received.  On the vessel release day, charterers are contacted with vessel options.  During Discount season, the policies outlined below are relaxed and, depending on demand, arrangements may be made for most types of bookings well in advance.

PRIME SEASON:

Weekend Day Charters  Vessel selection and charter confirmation made at noon the day before  the desired weekend day charter.

Weekday Charters  vessel selection and charter confirmation made at noon the day before  the desired weekend day charter.

4 Day charters.  Vessel selection and confirmation made one calendar week prior to charter date (as projected availability permits).

 

Reservation deposit

No reservation deposit required;  see membership agreement.  For cancellation policy, see membership agreement.

Required   100% of the total cost of the charter, due at time of confirmation of the charter. 

 

Cancellations

Cancellation charges:

·         3 days prior incurs no charge.

·         48 hours prior incurs a 25% charge

·         24 hours prior incurs a 50% charge

·         Same day cancellation incurs a 100% charge

 

CANCELLATIONS by CHARTERER:  A cancellation received before 48 hours, or two full calendar days,  of the charter requires a cancellation payment of 50% of the total charter fee.  A cancellation received within 24 hours of the charter start time  will result in a 100% cancellation fee, unless the vessel can be rebooked.  If rebooking occurs, charterer will receive refund equal to actual rebooked rental received less 10%.

 

CANCELLATIONS by WWSC: Beyond the charter elected cancellation policies noted above , WWSC may cancel any charter at time of scheduled outing for any reason it deems necessary for the safety of the charter guests.  In case  of a WWSC determination to cancel, the charterer will receive a full refund of deposit fees made.

 

Security deposit

None required.  See membership contract for details on member responsibility for the vessel insurance deductible.

Required   May be by credit card or check and is due before departure. Returned or destroyed upon successful check-in by Wind Works staff at end of trip.  Amount ranges from $750 to $3500, depending on vessel.

Check-outs

Vessel check-out required for first time vessel use; allow .5 to 1.5 hours depending on vessel.  Check-outs may be arranged for times prior to day of sail, if desired.  Vessel manual and skipper’s log (checklist) to be completed for each trip.  It is member's responsibility to bring any discrepancies to Windworks staff attention prior to leaving the dock, and to inspect and approve all safety gear, lifejackets, vessel systems, holding tank compliance, radio and instruments prior to departure. PAPERWORK:  Signed membership contract and membership application must be on file.

Vessel check out with Wind Works personnel required for every vessel usage.  Check out fee is $75, and may require an on-the-water skills demonstration by charterer.  Check out times start at time indicated for trip departure.  It is charterer's responsibility to bring any discrepancies to Wind Works attention prior to leaving the dock, and to inspect and approve all safety gear, lifejackets, vessel systems, holding tank compliance, radio and instruments prior to departure.  See charter contract and vessel manual for charterer responsibilities regarding the vessel. PAPERWORK:  Completed and approved charter application/resume, charter contract, and vessel security deposit.

Fuel

$8.00 per day flat charge, except for trips of 3 days or more for which vessel is filled by Wind Works at departure and returned full by member.

Check-ins

Complete vessel check-in log.  Empty holding tank at pump out station.  Secure vessel, inventory gear, clean interior and head, wash and brush vessel exterior and deck.  Secure battery switch/electrical system.  Plug in vessel shore power.  Note in log and report to Wind Works any vessel problems, whether caused by member or not.  Return keys and skippers log to Wind Works office

 

If vessel not left in required condition at check-in, the following fees will apply:

 

Vessel not cleaned per check list ( $75)

Vessel holding tank not pumped out ($100)

Vessel head clogged ($150)

 

Vessel must be returned properly cleaned and ready for inspection at prescribed times.  Complete the vessel check-in log in vessel manual.  Empty holding tank at pump out station.  Secure vessel, inventory gear, clean interior and head, wash and brush vessel exterior and deck.  Secure battery switch/ electrical system.  Plug in vessel shore power.  Note in log and report to Wind Works any vessel problems, whether caused by charterer or not.  See charter contract for costs to charterer for failing to leave vessel in proper condition.
